Finished Transistor. Spoilers: [spoiler]Played through most of the game during fall and just couldn't really get into it like Bastion. The world was cool but I found myself not really enjoying the gameplay all that much and the story didn't really grab me. Booted it up thinking I had at least a level left to find that I was pretty much at the end boss. I figured ok at least I got enough entertainment out of the game for what I payed for it. Then the fucking end scene. Jesus christ. For a game that I wasn't really immersed in Red committing suicide really fucking shocked me.  [/spoiler]

I don't think it was lazy. I thought it was a good conclusion that gave us some valuable information.

[spoiler]I mean, what else was left for Red? Her voice was gone (her entire life) and her lover was trapped inside a sword. She knew that what she was doing was going to reunite her with him. Coupled of having the exhaustion and shock of what had transpired throughout the game, I think her decision was entirely believable. Just what gets me was him pleading to her not to do it. I don't know why but that just gave me chills. [/spoiler]

[spoiler]Paying attention to how the story is told is how you come to understand the ending. Look at the art in some of the cutscenes. Take notice how Red uses the OVC consoles to speak to Breach/Blue and reveal what she's thinking. Watch how the more she learns about the Camerata and the nature of Cloudbank, the greater the resolve she shows in getting to Royce. Once she has those answers - once she knows that Cloudbank is cyclical in nature, but the people that made it what it was aren't, she rejects what the Camerata set out to do. She rejects the ultimate power the Transistor represents because its hollow and meaningless. The story clearly portrayed Red as someone that understood the beauty of creation, spontaneity and formlessness. The story also shows that she understood the value of non-conformity. To that end, the decision between of commanding the power to restore a preditable, empty world akin to the the Camerata designs, or returning to the one person she carried with her for the entire journey, was obvious before she ever sat down next to Breach/Blue. Not only did I feel the ending was thematically appropriate, but it also provided the catharsis required for a story about the ruination of high ideals(direct democracy/transcendent harmony).   [/spoiler]
