I look up definition in an online dictionary and print it out for him. Customer: Well why isn't in the dictionary? Me: It is. But, it's a Latin word and you had it misspelled slightly. Customer: Well why is it written in Latin? Me: Many professions, like the law and physicians, use Latin phrases. Customer: Are they trying to force Latin down our throats like Spanish? Me (trying to figure out if he's kidding or not): Well no. English is really just a mish mash of other European languages. We use a lot of "foreign" words when we speak. Customer: stares at me just dumbfounded Me: For example, the word Kindergarten is German word. But we use it. It's just part of English now.
