Okay so I posted this on GameSurge a day or two ago because my BIOS was saying there was CPU Fan Errors or something, Hek said it might be related to my CPU fan going out, but it seemed to be fine. I played MGSV right after too and my CPU temp never rose above 38C so I thought things were fine, but now SpeedFan readings are showing some pretty weird stuff:
CPU fan's RPM is in the 1000s and a Sys and Aux fan never seems to go above 500. My original thought is that it might have something to do with my PSU as I recall this only beginning to happen after a power surge while I was playing MGSV this past weekend. Any ideas and steps I need to take? |

Doctor says bushing in your stock Hyper 212 fan is dying.
Replace with 120mm PWM fan, like an ugly-ass Noctua NF-S12A |

I did some troubleshooting with Chief over steam. He reported a ticking sound, which we sourced to the CPU fan. Typical sign of a failing bushing or sleeve-bearing.
During POST, the cpu fan is supplied a certain voltage via PWM, in this case it's low (some use full voltage) and since there is more resistance inside the fan than normal, it wasn't spinning as it should and thus the low-speed error. Once booted, the Q-Fan or whichever variable fan speed system would ramp up the voltage as needed to keep the system cool, thus the fan appears to be working within spec. The graph isn't too weird, as it's a slow sample rate and an inaccurate source. You'll easily see +/- 150 rpm with any fan sensor if not more. |

Update: apparently my computer is failing to "overclock" every once in a while. Not sure what's causing it - sometimes my computer starts up just fine, sometimes it powers up and down and give me that message

that cpu should be overclockable without much issue,... are there any logs generated (it's rare overclockers can do that)

What is producing that error message? Windows or the BIOS?
What is the make and model of your Motherboard and the version of the bios? |

I would start by updating the BIOS to a more recent version: https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/..._Download/
v0906 is eleven revisions behind the current. |
