So, I was sifting through my posts, seeing if there was a thread I posted anything specific about any game engines, be it unreal, or unity, or vPlay (Qt Game Engine), or any others, and I found out I didn't (except in game specific stuff).
Doing hobbyist game development stuff is fun to me, so I'm starting this thread for discussing engines, and perhaps projects people have or want to get going. Here's a list of development engines I have used at the very least through trials though I own licenses to some of them (through lots of sales). There's no real specific sorting here but I put the high powered 3D engines first and went to the primarily 2D engines below that. Unreal Engine 4
Unity 5
S2Engine
Amazon Lumberyard
CryEngine
V-Play
Game Maker Studio
Game Maker Studio 2
RPG Maker
Construct 2
Torque2D/Torque3D
libGDX
Godot Engine
Clickteam Fusion 2.5 (Replaced Multimedia Fusion 2)
Just as a last little bit, I really really really do NOT recommend Clickteam Fusion/Multimedia Fusion, honestly it's the worst one I've used (and I've always hated LUA's scripting language, but even then it's not very easy to get to use within Clickteam Fusion). Anyway, if anyone's interested in a project, let me know and I'd love to collaborate.

I've been working on making a roguelike in C++ in my spare time, which has been a massive slog what with learning how to actually make a project larger than a few hundred lines. Kinda wishing I'd just stuck with Game Maker.

C++ is a worthwhile endeavor but I'm not a fan of rogue likes

Post updated to include Torque2D/Torque3D
GameMaker Studio + Android + some assets are on Humble Weekly for $12 https://www.humblebundle.com/weekly Looks like YoYoGames is migrating their web site and database in an effort to alleviate the impact that these sales have had on their licensing and sales DB.

Updated Unity and Unreal with links to both current, and upcoming paid tutorials on coding for both. I've done a large portion of the Unity one and it's fantastic. The Unreal link is to a kickstarter by the same person/people who did the Unity one but geared towards Unreal programming.

First post updated with RPG Maker MV Information as it is on Pre-Order:
http://preorder.rpgmakerweb.com/rpg-maker-mv/ Ordering from the web site will get you a steam key that will also work as a non-steam activation key (according to that site). Added libGDX to first post.

Big shoutout to lazyfoo.net and open.gl for learning OpenGL. Every other tutorial I've found has been just awful.

A few updates here guys.
Update #1: Tuned Chaos (a name you've all heard me say before) is now a registered company here in my home state. Update #2: I've officially announced on it's web site my game that many of you have known I've wanted to make for years, I'm naming it Brel and I'm using the Unreal Engine 4 to build it. Update #3: I've added S2Engine to this thread's first post. Looks like a nice engine but is Windows only as far as I know. Update #4: Updated license information on CryEngine Update #5: Updated platform distribution information for RPG Maker

Godot Engine added, looks to be a pretty impressive open source option that distributes to everything but consoles (out of the box, doesn't mean you can't make it work for Consoles with the right SDK's it is open source after all). I do mean everything (including Blackberry OS). Haven't tried it yet but looks pretty solid.
It also can be developed for on Linux, Windows, Mac OSX, and BSD Operating Systems. Which is cool.
