No it would be great to have an 'as we need it' server to switch around to whatever mod people happen to want to gather on a random Saturday afternoon and what not.  I propose that what ever maps do make it into rotation for those other times of the day, that they be maps that aren't necessarily played often on the main server.  A man needs his options.

I agree with this statement...

I think it should be an every night thing...as in monday it hosts TQ or whatever else we schedule, tuesday overflow, wednesday TQ, thursday Mod, Fri overflow, sat Civ4 (if its needed), sunday whatever.

I dont like the idea of spreading us out, and if it is a server that just fills with pubs, then whats the point?

Although having it set to a rotation of just 1-3 kick ass maps on certain days would be cool too.  But the thing I think this is the most useful for is having a dedicated server to facilitate are nightly shenanigans.

Exactly. Before I say anymore, I'd like folks to stop for a second and discuss THIS comment. It seems to me like leaving this on all the time would just gobble up regulars from the other server. Is this good or bad? The community is definitely growing, but on any night that's not TFT/FNF, the server isn't usually full of regulars anyways. The question in my mind is one of: Second Server or Overfill server/private scrims/etc?

Second server, main and secondary. You want the secondary to be as self sustaining as possible, hence a very small rotation of popular maps only, the main server is a little bit harder to keep populated, but over the months its gotten its own crew of names I recognize. Not necessarily that they come to the forums, but its on their favorites list.

What I CAN do is piggy back the servers onto each other, list the IPs for each other in advertisements, have redirects for reserve slot kicks, ect.

I can easily recode the Reserve Slots plugin to do redirects, would only take a day or two + testing. Its also nice to have for FNF/TFT overflow, but to have an overflow server you have to have people in it, no one is going to overflow to an empty server


If you were on IRC tonight, you would know that FlyingMongoose is going to run any HL1 mod we could ever ask for under the sun. As for Titan Quest and whatnot I have no idea how that works but it seems like more of a hassle to take down one server, put up another, than take it down again tomorrow then put it back up again. How do you host it now, doesn't Vandam?

I think it'd work as a private scrim server. 'Maybe' some private whoring should the need arise during further achievement packs, but I pretty much as an overflow with a limited map selection. Hell, maybe this server will attract attention to the main server during the summer.

You cant use this second server to host non-HL games.
for Civ4 and TQ , the host needs to also be a player - there's no dedicated server software.

now the decision to make it 24/7 or Tuesday/Friday should be put to a vote.
Tuesday/Friday would make more sense. I don't want to feel like i need to connect to #2 first and spend 10 minutes making sure all players are being nice, then switch over to #1
