One of the only good ideas I saw for a new sniper rifle replacement was a type of bow and arrow.  It has a charge up, but it's mostly for the arrow draw.  At full draw, it's pretty much a straight shot like the sniper rifle with some arc, but it also means no major damage for quick draws at closer distances.  Has 60 to 75% zoom than the sniper rifle along with no dot.  Fairly silent and if it's a headshot or kill shot, it pins people to the nearest wall or whatever might be behind them.  Damage would normally be stronger than the basic sniper shot and it has a faster reload.  Probably would have a smaller ammo bundle, so maybe 14 to 18 shots instead of 25.  I'm sure that it could be tweaked to be better. 

It's pretty much the funnest sniper replacement I've heard of.

DPSS stands for Damage-Per-Second-Scoped. A sniper rifle's DPSS measures how much the rifle rewards the Sniper for remaining scoped and taking his shots slowly. The DPSS of a rifle is determined by subtracting the damage of a shot with 0% charge from the damage of a shot with 100% charge and dividing the result by the time it takes to fully charge the rifle.

I came up with the idea when I was trying to work out the pros and cons of my newest sniper rifle idea (to be posted here soon). My first instinct was to put reduced charge speed as an advantage. But then I realized that, even though it took less time to fully charge, the damage gap between an uncharged shot and a fully charged shot was disproportionally less than the charge time; while the charge time was halved, the damage gap was quartered! The charge time wasn't a pro, it was a con!

A rifle with a high DPSS (anything above 30) and a large damage gap (100+) could encourage a more aggressive play style, or could be off-set by a major handicap such as reduced mobility. If the damage gap is small (50-), the rifle could support rapid-firing weaker shots. A rifle with a low DPSS (anything below 20), however, has the inverted effect. A low DPSS rifle with a small damage gap encourages players to make snap headshots by not providing much reward for remaining scoped, and a large damage gap encourages lying in wait for a fully charged shot with massive damage.

If your rifle fits one of these play styles and you really want to be thorough in your description of it, feel free to refer to the rifle's DPSS and link to this topic to explain exactly what you mean.

Actually I liked the elephant gun idea.  Mostly because I think it would be funny to see the sniper with an elephant gun.  Reminds me of cool cat for some reason.
