In honor of Michael Jackson we are going to be trying out a new MJ themed playstyle in TF2.  Read on for details.

Team Fortress 2

Introducing a new playstyle in honor of the great Michael Jackson: The Smooth Criminal.  We will pick a CTF map and one side will go all spy and try to cap the intel 3 times in as little time as possible.  Then sides will switch and the other side will go all spy and try to beat their time.  This will be played twice to find a victor or more if it is as fun as the admins thought it could be.  There are some groundrules though, and all-talk will be off as this qualifies under a goofy-competitive match.

Smooth Criminal Playstyle Rules:

-Smooth Criminal team must be entirely spy
-Defenders cannot play as spy or pyro
-Absolutely no spawn camping
-Defenders are not to cap the Smooth Criminals intel
-Friendly Fire will be on
-4 max of any class for the defenders
-Make sure you note the map time and the time left at victory to figure out your winning time (mods will be responsible for this but it won't hurt to double check them)
-Cheaters and intentional TKers will be slayed/kicked
-Download this map

- Map Packs (version 6): arena maps, ctf maps, cp maps, pl maps, other maps

Also mic-spamming during FNF is going to be strongly discouraged especially during competitive or goofy-competitive matches.  I've been getting word that too much chatter is interfering with the game and we are going to start moderating excessive banter.

Remember the courtesy rules:  If no one can talk over or around you then you are probably mic-spamming.  If your team is having trouble coordinating around the chatter than people probably will be muted.

A FNF variant that may actually be fun? Count me in.

I believe this game mode could be quite a Thriller.

I'd recommend mp_tournament for timekeeping; this is gonna be cool.

That sounds really easy for defense, even without pyros.  I'd say turn on team damage to make it interesting.

I agree. Why, it's Human Nature to shoot shit in TF2 regardless of what it is. Thus, it might be Bad for the attacking team if there's no risk for the defending team.

Hmm possibly good point?  But it could make things unbalanced the other way.  I'll let the admins play it by ear.

I was talking to Negate on IRC and he brought up a good point: you can tap people and if they are solid they are spy.  Therefore I am adding the rule to this that FF should be one.

Remember All-talk is off - so the team that secretly organizes the best system of recognizing each other and defending wins.

I also added a 4 player class limit for the defenders just to keep them from all going engy.  Remember you are just trying to defend as long as possible, in the end fastest time wins - not who defended the intel for the full length of the map.

And don't worry if you aren't a good spy.  The criminal team has to work together to get the intel out, that means there are plenty of other things you can be doing - like partnering up with good spies to be bait, or performing the role of scout, or just shooting people uncloaked to distract them.  There are plenty of strategies you can be a part of.

Also negate is kind enough to work on a config so it will be easier to play by the rules.

OK - we decided on a map: Escherhaus.  If you haven't had the pleasure of playing on it, it is one of the most creative and amazing maps out there.  Only problem is it is too big and too weird for normal play.  But for fitting both teams on one side of the map and for presenting lots of great places for spies to work their magic it will work perfectly.

Try to download it before as it is quite big.

Isn't it also in the BRBU map pack?

Yes, so if you have that you don't need to DL it.

I approve of this idea. How will teams be decided though? Pick up?

That will probably be decided at the time of the match, teams could honestly be random except for the good spies should be spread as even as possible.  Pick up can take way too long at times though, so I'd rather the good spies would just arrange themselves accordingly to make it a good match.

This sounds fun.  I'm not sure if I'll be there for it, but I approve of the fact that it exists.

I get my wisdom teeth out that morning, so if I manage to tape an icepack to my face I might be there (but probably not). It sounds like this could be great/horrible, so I'd like to hear how it went if I don't make it.

Undisguised spies should have to walk around backwards.

Negate made a config that should make things mega-easy (if the class limit cvars work).  We might need some testing though.

not to rain on the parade but friendly fire is really buggy. pyros for example cant light teammates on fire. demo pipes dont work. also the defending team could just all hold down their mic keys as a spycheck if they were smart. if people play nice it could work but its really easy to ruin
