The long short of it, though I've never done it, I'm fairly confident in my ability to figure it out. I'm thinking within like 2 months or so maybe. My question is are there any technologies/specifications for any hardware coming out that might make it worth waiting longer for?

Why would you need to cosplay just go as yourself <+FlyingMongoose> Caffeine`work: Karrde would actually have to tone it down some. |

Read some articles on Tom's Hardware guide, its what I do whenever I'm looking to make a new build, see whats out there, what the reviews are, and what's just around the corner.
Thing is something will always be around the corner, the question is, is it game changing enough to wait for  Sig by Joel |

like caff said, there's always something around the corner. that said, i7 is still fresh enough, amd just released their 6-core stuff, and even the top video cards are more than you'll need for the next 3 years, so I don't think there's much to wait for besides maybe SSD prices?

SSD as a boot drive only maybe? |

Yeah I browse TH occasionally. Just seeing if there was something I missed. Still don't like the idea of SSDs and a more or less expected lifetime.

Quote:Karrde link=topic=4601.msg151764#msg151764 date=1273543470] You buy one smaller ~20gig SSD for your main boot OS and basic programs, ie Browser, Office, etc. You get other drives for your data that is more precious  Sig by Joel |

All I would say is get LGA 1336, and if you aren't interested in SSDs, then go RAID 0. I really wish I had done so; it's not exactly something you can go and change later.
And I've been an nVidia user for four years now, but I would actually recommend an ATI card right now. I'm enamored with them. |

Yea ATI seems to be winning lately and Intel seems to be kicking AMDs ass despite the new releases.

My biggest problem with ATI right now is that it doesn't seem to play nice (compared to nvidia) with openGL, especially in older apps. A boot SSD might be a good idea though The seek time is a million times faster isn't it? And why Raid 0? I suppose it's faster but if I was gonna bother setting up raid, I'd probably want to build in some redundancy. Like a 3 disk 3, 4, or 5 setup.

I have a 30 gig SSD boot drive and I like it. Wait for a deal though, they run them all the time.

Yeah AMD is just on top right now not necessarily because of processor speed, but just because they've been doing stupid shit. it looks like they're settling into the i5 / 1156 socket as a consumer socket now, but they're releasing tons of different processors that more or less do the same fucking thing as another processor with a different name.

Or the much cheaper Lynfields that can easily and stably be OC'd to the same level.

On the same boat as Karrde, Im looking to do a build with the Radeon 4850 and a 500W power supply I already have.
So far Im looking at ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO AM3 AMD Motherboard and AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition. Then add in some RAM, a case and maybe a DVD drive. Also, hard drive. http://www.tf2items.com/id/lv15gamer - backpack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kwvC8WlNuQÂ - tf2 replay

Throw down some budgets, stuff you want to have, stuff you already have, any preferences for whatever, and the newegg hunting can begin.
