The stock fan just isn't quite cutting it on my PC. It idles fine ~37C but it gets really hot under load. (Thats what she said)
Specs: Intel C2D E8600 3.33Ghz Asus P5E deluxe Mobo BFG Nvidia GTX 280 stock heat sink 11:35 Socks Greatbacon_work: Just accept the idea of enemas. |

Find whatever fits your socket Short of getting watercooling, Zalman is about the best you are going to get heatsink wise. Just watch yourself installing one, those fins will slice your hand open like a razor blade if you are not careful. Â Sig by Joel |

Just got this a few months back:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6835200026 Great cooler that's cheap and with free shipping. I used to always idle at around 60c and get up to 75-85c under load with the stock. This one is much better, doesn't have those stupid plastic fastners either. The fan points out to the back of the outtake fan in the case so the heat doesn't build up in the PC. The heatsink itself is MASSIVE. Coupled this with a pair intake fan filters and the heatsink has yet to accumulate tons of dust (which is what would cause my stock one to heat up after a month or so). Went down to about 43c and 50c under load. Which is great considering my cpu (QX6850) has the expectation of being really hot reguardless. Only downside is that it requires an X-clamp to be installed on the back of the motherboard (which it comes with). It's just annoying having to take apart your entire computer and unfasten your motherboard from the case just to install the xclamp on the back which supports the heatsink. |

i dont care what brand you get. but please get one with a reverse tension screw.
see if i can find and example pic .. you'll have to pull your rig appart to install the back plate (sorry, i read those 2 new posts) then you unscrew to apply pressure , its brilliant. but still , there's a reason im reccomending this madness. i was buying a cpu cooler and didnt want to take my rig appart so i got a cooler with those shit plastic anchors.. i warped my MB this much to get it installed :/ which caused a host of other problems later on down the road :o please get a back plate. |

So after ordering a different HS. It gets delivered and I go to install it......doesn't fucking fit. There's a heatsink on the MOBO itself and the fins on the fan get caught. So start trying to find a way to improvise when I see this in my random parts drawer.
apparently i had bought it when i originally ordered my computer parts and never installed it. so in the end, the fan i needed I already had and I didn't need to buy anything. New(old) fan is installed and is idling around 35C and 45-50C under load. 11:35 Socks Greatbacon_work: Just accept the idea of enemas. |
