So I'm helping my roommate with a new build. So far this is what I came up with:

https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

Any advice? I think I managed to find the cheapest prices on each item.

Well, the first bit of advice I can give is to post us a link to the actual parts list instead of the place for us to build our own. Pro Tip: You have to save it first.

If he likes messing with his gear and overclocking then you should know Skylake just released: http://www.anandtech.com/show/9483/intel...eneration/
Quote:As I said above, Skylake is not necessarily the most ground breaking architecture over Haswell. It affords a 19% CPU performance gain over the i7-4770K and 5% over the i7-4790K. There is a small minor issue with gaming that disappears when you use synthetics, but only to the tune of a couple of percentage points. For that minor hit, the package combo of processor, chipset and DDR4 should be an intrigue in the minds of Sandy Bridge (and older) owners.
It's the first real jump in intel CPUs since Sandy Bridge and the almighty 2600K.

If you're going for cheap though then forget it, I just think Skylake is really cool.

Looks neat, but he only has $1700 to spend on everything, including the OS and monitor. It's already pretty close to his limit.
