Project Revival (red server)

Having talked it over with a few of you last night, I have gotten in touch with Caff and will be taking ownership of Red server. It is my intent to revive it--slightly. There's probably no debate that the days of having a full TF2 server every night of the week are over. But, I think we can settle for 1 night per week. We have demonstrated that we still have a strong enough playerbase to keep the server seeded if need be. All we need is a group to commit.

Here's my plan for Red server:

• Restore Sourcemod to its full functionality, and re-upload some of our favorite maps.
  
• Appoint a larger number of regular members to positions with admin privileges. These same regulars will be responsible for seeding the server and playing on Friday nights, when they are available.
  
• Crowdsource the server funding (I'm even more broke now than as an undergrad)
  
• Install some other fun things like mge basketball for when the server is inactive and people just want to do some 1v1
  
• Be able to play TF2 with the BRBU community on friday nights!
  

To accomplish this, I'm hoping to get a trust of people going who are serious about this semi-restoration. Here are the roles that I will need fulfilled:

Technical support: I'm willing to try again, but I have failed at installing sourcemod a few times now. Would be good to have someone in the know to help set that up and supply admin privileges as necessary. (need 1-2 people)
Seed Officers: A small group that will try to consistently be around to seed the server, and to take turns running FNF if that is to become a thing again. Will probably have rudimentary privileges and will follow a google calendar schedule if necessary. You can think of this as Admins/Mods, though it's not clear how we'll exactly delineate this. (need 8 people)
Fundraiser: This may not need to be a specific role for someone to fill. I can't afford to run the server myself (though it is not as expensive as you might think), so I would need a hand gathering donations. Ideally a lot of these would come from the seed officers, as they should be more invested in the server than everyone else. (need 0-1 people)

Quick note: I will probably be wiping the original admin list since there are probably a lot of inactive members on there. I will be contacting a lot of you who were previously admins to see if you'd be willing to be Seed officers. You can also feel free to post or directly contact me if you're interested in doing the job--all I'd really require is for you to be able to commit on 2/3 of Fridays to play some TF2!


I wrote this up in like 5min so give me your thoughts. Do you think reviving the server is a good idea? Do you have ideas for how it should be run?

My Friday nights are iffy, but I can chip in to keep it running though.

Also, I'd put the donation link in the OP as well. It might be a good idea to try to set goals every quarter or however often we have to renew and setup one of those donation counter so it's easier for donors to keep up with the funds still needed.

I'd be interested in doing tech support. I've run servers for three small communities at this point. I've also modified source mod, mods before if any of them are out of date and die from steam updates.
