Hey I was just wondering what you guys use to secure your computers... I have McAfee but I'm not a fan. Any suggestions?

i use AVG free, but i have never needed it, the most effective form of protection is prolly NAT.
other than that just dont download too much kiddie porn or illegal stuff. I have never been careful with what i do on the internet and i have only had a virus once, that was cause my bro shares my computer methinks. idk NAT is a very effective form of blocking unrequested things. the only way after that is if you actually request something malicious yourself. anyways my vote goes for AVG Free. AVG + Zonealarm. Yeah, they're both actually getting pretty annoying, anyone tried NOD32?

Signature temporarily out of order until I get off my lazy ass to fix it. |

AVG, Windows Firewall, and I scan with Spybot and Ad-aware every once and a while. Also, getting the NoScript extension for Firefox really helps keep away shit you don't want on your computer. Overall, I think the best thing you can do to keep your computer secure is just take good care of it and watch what sites you visit.

By not being dumb.....
Or in my case, Smoothwall, Firefox w/ adaware, Symantec corp NAV w/ central management. That and linux on all non-workstation PCs. |

Common sense, typical port blocks, Opera, Trillian, Forté Agent, and AVG (though I agree that it's getting on my nerves -- though they're starting to open features back up to free customers once you have a chance to disable all the useless shit). Yes, a lot of those are just alternatives to popular and well-exploited programs.
And even then all I really use AVG for is scanning suspicious downloads of PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE CONTENT I SWEAR. Heck, even before I was behind a proper router, I had no real virus concerns. :B
