Evil Cheese I advise you to not cheap out on your first musical instrument Atleast buy in the midrange, but Ibanez is a good choice though. Just don't get stuck like me. I bought a cheap starter pack and shit then I wanted to upgrade as soon as I got competent cuz I realized I needed more out of the pickups
I play 6-string guitar not bass so don't have any specific recommendations.

Ibanez is a good starter. My brother actually started on Ibanez, but if you get competent be prepared to spend money on good equipment. My brother bought a Yamaha that had a brighter sound a year or two later. Then he bought a Fender Jazz Bass a year or two after that..and now he has a custom $2000 bass that will arrive a few days after Christmas.
