So I made a Gaming Club at my school that I teach at... - broonor - 08-08-2009 Just a cross-post, but the turds over there didn't get me any help, so I turn to my true brothers-in-arms to possibly help us win a system or something. You can only play so much PS2 before you wish you were playing Rock Band. Gaming Club Needs Help! Re: So I made a Gaming Club at my school that I teach at... - chronomaster - 08-08-2009 Play Culdcept like a real men. Re: So I made a Gaming Club at my school that I teach at... - Ianki - 08-08-2009 Hah, i was a nerd enough to start a CCG club when i was in 7th grade. Of course this was in 1995, when it was fucking cool to play magic the gathering. Re: So I made a Gaming Club at my school that I teach at... - Surf314 - 08-08-2009 Just a tip, when calling local people for sponsorships make sure you frame it in ways that make their advantages apparent. So check if they can get tax deductions for donations and if you do events offer them advertising space on the programs or make banners or T-shirts with their logos. If you can get in their heads before you pitch to them you cab be very successful. Like a local game shop could get a write off, broad advertising with their logo or banner on something, and targetted advertising to your kids and their parents for when they want to get stuff for themselves. The trick is walking the line between laying out all these advantages but in a subtle way so they can still feel good about themselves for committing a "selfless" act. Edit: god trying to develop an idea on a phone does not work, anyways my wife just went through something similar for a no budget event for the library and she got a lot of comic books donated for free. Realistically the guy got to clear out overstock and maybe get a write-off, but it still helps the kids. Re: So I made a Gaming Club at my school that I teach at... - Ianki - 08-08-2009 You would have to think that having a gaming store donate some board games and stuff would be a big plus for them. It would be like some dealer donating an eight-ball to some poor soul out of the kindness of their own heart and handing them a card where they can score more once school is out. Re: So I made a Gaming Club at my school that I teach at... - Greatbacon - 08-08-2009 I dunno how much you're willing to maybe spend out of pocket, but perhaps you could find a permanent system on the cheep at like a Goodwill or Salvation Army or a pawnshop if you really want to. Also, armegedtron for the computers. Re: So I made a Gaming Club at my school that I teach at... - copulatingduck - 08-08-2009 "tax exempt" Alternatively, try inviting someone from one of those stores out to enjoy one of your events. Perhaps if they enjoy themselves enough (read: see enough commercial opportunities) they might be convinced to help out and sponsor a little something something (or something). Offer to let them sell small stuff (think used games or CCGs, etc) in exchange for helping out with the events. The chances of them laughing at the proposal are probably pretty high, and accepting it extremely low, but it certainly wouldn't be the worst thing ever sold out of the trunk of a car in a high school parking lot. Re: So I made a Gaming Club at my school that I teach at... - broonor - 08-08-2009 As I expected, you all are more worthy of my questions. Yeah, I'm going to harass up some donations since the local businesses are pretty good with the high school, but I didn't want to approach from a "GIVE US FREE STUFF CUZ U RICH" perspective. I'll make the club officers do that, since I'm told they're better at asking and more easily listened to by the owners. Too bad there's no nearby "game store" just the usual gamestops and electronics stores. They may be willing to help. But these damn kids these days would rather read shitty, derivative manga that draws from a very small set of overused character archetypes and story structures. Not that all manga is bad; just all the stuff junior high kids pick up because all their friends read them and it's funny because you have to turn the pages backwards. And I'm only twenty years old. I shouldn't have to use the phrase "damn kids these days" for at least another ten years. Re: So I made a Gaming Club at my school that I teach at... - Bybus Slago - 08-09-2009 Hey, can you fags stop jerking off over comic books for a bit and come up with ideas to help the next generation of gamers not be total meme-spouting douchebags? I'd say try to approach them with the charity/tax write-off approach. If you can market it in a way that seems like it'll benefit the store you might have an okay chance. Sorta like "hey if I get these kids addicted early they'll be spending all their grocery bagboy money at your store!"
