TF Tuesdays 2/10 - Waste Not Want Not - CaffeinePowered - 02-08-2009

pl_waste_b2 - Did this one last week, thought a lot of people liked it, guy made some optimization fixes, so we'll give it another go

cp_ironbowl_b7 - combo CTF/CP map with dustbowl like rounds, there is no round_end between caps, but laser gates will prevent players from advancing for 60 sec to allow red to set up again

ctf_rockpike_b4 - I think it looks pretty good, I really wish we could find some more ctf maps that didn't suck Sad

I hope to god this week no one changes the files in two days AND names it the same file, for fucks sakes, take note waste_b2 has a lot of junk in it, you just need the .res and .bsp in your maps directory.

I probably won't make it. Too much homework.

Re: TF Tuesdays 2/10 - Waste Not Want Not - Fail Medic - 02-08-2009

I like waste.  'spect I'll be there.

Re: TF Tuesdays 2/10 - Waste Not Want Not - CaffeinePowered - 02-08-2009

Just an update, delete the .res file that came with pl_waste, causes worse performance according to Icarus, the mapper, who coincidentally should be out for TFT

speaking of ctf that doesn't suck, caff, question.  Is it possible to make prebuilt SGs that are destroyable and can be respawned after X seconds with a switch.  Although I can't map, I've been trying to think of ways to make CTF more fun for everyone.  Some way of simulating robo engineer or something so someone isn't stuck in base with boring intel duty.  Because it always sucks when nobody wants to play engi and then the map turns into scout cap city.

Re: TF Tuesdays 2/10 - Waste Not Want Not - copulatingduck - 02-09-2009

CTF TF2 is more fun without engineers period, imho.

I'm not sure, I know they can be made to be destroyable or invulnerable (can still be sapped)

Id have to look at the entity to see if it remains active and the gun can be rebuilt, that does give me an idea for a CTF map sort of like what Zargon did but slightly different...

Maybe a map where there a couple of switches in each team's base that allow one sentry gun to be built at various locations, and resets if it's destroyed.  Could eliminate the need for engis.

This could be done, I'm pretty sure.  It would take a modification of how I spawned the center sentries in my one map, rigged up with a check to see if they are destroyed.  I'll see if I can't slap together a little proof of concept.

Re: TF Tuesdays 2/10 - Waste Not Want Not - copulatingduck - 02-09-2009

What would be cooler is a CTF map with sentried up mid, and a destructable switch in enemy base that switches sentry allegiance or swaps red out for blue. : )))

edit: it's actually a terrible idea, but I would play it for the sheer hilarity

That's what one of zargon's concept maps is that we tried, there was an underground point that would flip the sentry allegiance in the middle (they were also indestructible)

Hmm, now that everyone keeps talking about it, maybe I should get back to working on that one...

I'm wondering how this will work exactly.  If there is no forced respawn, will it just go straight into a setup timer after the cap or will there be a grace period to allow anyone who is dead to respawn at their new spawn room?  Going to suck being engi or medic if it is the former, particularly for red.

Will be there to find out hopefully.

There will be a release candidate 1 of norad after TFT, not sure if it I will have a download link ready in time though
