My dad needs a new laptop, and with my computer being broken I have very little time to research good options. He needs a laptop with a decently sized screen capable of running Civilization 4 well(that's really the only game he plays). Budget is $1000, but less would be good.

Civ4 and nothing else? Pick up any cheapass C2D machine that has a "real" video card in it (no integrated, you want dedicated video memory, and no uber budget cards). Basically anything with an 9600M should be in a good price range.

Same price, better brand, nice vidya card and the other specs aren't shabby either. Does he know how much battery life he needs or what screen size? |

Also note, that 1300 res is a gimped ass resolution, and just looks plain weird. I wasn't looking when I threw that link up, just giving an example, but you might want to try finding something with a real 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio.
