What was there to even argue? I was just trying to explain why I don't like to dance. If you got trolled into an argument because I described dancing as some "primal need" that's your monkey-headed fault. Wanker.

Speaking for myself, I'm pretty self conscious about dancing. Having a few drinks really helps with that. Not always necessary if I'm in the right mood and with the right people, but never hurts.

And when I dance I pretty much ignore everything around me and just focus on the rhythm and beat of the music. Probably look like I'm spaced right out or something.

I do not dance. I am extremely self conscious and I don't like to make an ass out of myself in front of others, that's how I see it. Every time I try to do something akin to dancing I get the huge overwhelming feeling that I'm being retarded and should stop, and that is something I can ONLY get over in the shower.

As for parties, I don't mind but I'm usually the one sitting around watching everyone else being stupid. I can drink quite a bit before being drunk but somehow, after about three or four, I usually just don't want anymore and I stop. I might open another with the intent of drinking it but it loses its interest for me somehow. I am much happier at a party where there is something to do, like a hot tub or some outdoor games or something. More casual and with fewer people, like bonfire size or something.

That's the whole point: it is primal, as Duck said. You find yourself transfixed, the hours pass, the world around you drops away. Replaced by worlds being created and destroyed by your imagination. A way to focus the mind. Where is the need for self-consciousness in that?

My quarrel wasn't with the points you were trying to make, Duck, but rather how you were making them. Saying you have outgrown something, denotes seniority and indirectly superiority and makes you sound like an insolent prick.

Yeah, it's like that once I get going. It's that getting going where I'm self conscious. It's like at a public party when they start serving food... there's always a hesitation from everyone who doesn't want to be the first one to go up, but once it starts then things move smoothly.

There are not many feelings better than letting your body go to music you really love... Yes it's primal but many of the best things in life (sex, good food, friendship) are... If these are things that one "grows out of" then I'd rather stay primitive and enjoy these things...

What I think is that without alcohol you feel really self-conscious, which is very normal... many people have that and it's nothing to be ashamed of. You said yourself that you do dance when you drink and as alcohol lets one lose ones inhibitions I would say you're less "too grown up" for dancing and more self-conscious about it.

But I agree with Budr that saying you're too "grown up" to dance was very inflammatory when a simple "I don't like dancing" would have sufficed.

Oh I agree here, I like illegal raves the most, just 100 - 200 people, no rules, an open atmosphere and a unique location... Those make me happy.
