so...yeah, my sound isn't working. When I turned it on Saturday night after getting back from Chicago, it wasn't working.
Yes, everything is plugged in; no, mute is not on; yes, my soundcard is securely attached to my motherboard; no, I haven't installed sound drivers recently; yes, I have tried restarting my computer.    |

Try turning your speakers on :

I haven't tried new drivers yet, but if no one suggests anything else I'll do that
 As for onboard, I don't even know if I have onboard, and I wouldn't know what cord would even go in onboard...my headphones have three cords coming out of it :-X |

I would find it hard to believe you don't have onboard sound. It would be the OTHER set of audio jacks that have nothing plugged into them. It'd be a 1x3 or 2x3 set depending on your mobo.Â

This happened to me once when i downloaded a huge Vista update. I had to download some new drivers that were compatible with the new update and ta-dah, now i can hear Kor's sexy voice again

What kind of soundcard do you have? I had a problem similar to this with my creative card and newer drivers. Had to search around a lot to find a version that would work.

did you try doing it through the hardware manager?
isnt there a program that aids you in uninstalling drivers? anyone wanna chime in with the name? broke them myself. dropped them on the brick floor again. the internals came out of the right cup, although they still work...I just have to put it back together every time I take them off :
