Reformatting: The WinXP and Win7 Blues(not the user :O!)

Well, XP has started to bluescreen for no apparent reason. Also i thought Win7 32-bit could read my 4GB ram, it 'sees' what XP 'sees' unfortunately.


Reformatting is easy, but i absolutely hate backuping. I lost files from my transition from my emachine to my February '09 build.  >
Thank god i havent put anything on Win7, yet. Reinstalling my Steam games and mods will suck.


Hopefully i can have atleast TF2 running by TFT.

I let someone borrow my XP SP3 so i had to make a brand new disc..

What OS is it does not matter. All that matters is if it is 64-bit. If you get that, then you're all set for 4gigs and beyond.

It wont let me copy the Documents+Settings so ill steal it while booted in Win7. >

I'd love to try W7 but I don't want to do it knowing that the build you can get now will lock itself in a year and I'll be forced to re-backup everything on my PC all over again when that happens to reformat in a new OS.

You could just put it on a second HD, thats what i did. Dualboot XP and Win7. If you dont have a second drive, you partition your HD if youve got the space.

You people realize you don't have to reinstall Steam games at all. Copy paste the steam folder to a drive, launch, enjoy.

I hate running at 800x600, i wants mah 1280x1024! And Steam wont install cos .NET framework is installing.  > and .nets taking its time!!!

When i did it on my old rig it acted as if it was never copied to it.

Yeah forgot about that. It'll do a quick update and everything will work as if it had been installed that day.

What do you mean, constant reboot? Like, the thing won't stop rebooting? Or you have to reboot after every install...?

Protip:

Closing explorer.exe and running it again is passable for half of the programs that ask you to do a reboot to load them fully.

Or you can just reboot, since on a fresh install it doesn't take all that long.
