buy an anti-static bracelet lol

Gloves >> Bracelet

Wearing them makes you feel more specialer and also prevents fingerprints from blemishing your shiny new hardware.

pea-sized amount of thermal paste for the heatsink if you've got a 3rd party sink. otherwise, make damn well sure you get the cpu heatsink on right the first time. if you don't, you'll have to remove the paste and start over. that is really imho the only part you have to be careful with

It took me like 4 builds before I got the pea sized part right.

Also, bolded part is kinna wrong.

Did you solve the buying from online thing? i skimmed through and didnt see anything... but there's a fairly simple solution that i don't see mentioned... Western union or ever the post office has money orders.

You give them cash they write you a check with the name of who you want to receive it. you mail that in. easy as pie.

edit i see that you can get a friend to do it, but theres another solution anyway Smile

trust me... I'm a 2L

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Pavilio...&cp=1&lp=2

will this run TF2, L4D2(1), The Killing Floor, what have you? Because I don't think I need a completely overcharged.

It will run them, but not on good settings...

Look, you're going to regret buying this thing if you don't know what you want. If you buy that, you're going to get a graphics card that's going to be obsolete within a year. And I don't want that for you, I can say none of us do.

If you want a computer that is going to last a few years, whether you like it or not, you're going to have to buy online.

This is the rig I plan on building. I'm going to buy it in two bundles because it is a bit pricey. All the necessary stuff will cost my a total of $934, about the same price as the computer you linked. I can guarantee you, this computer without a terrabyte drive, new monitor, or windows 7, is at least 10 times better than the crap that best buy is trying to sell you.

I was going to build my mom a computer but she got impatient and went and got one from Sam's. It seemed ok but when I opened it up to put her old hard drive in I found out it had a shitty 400 watt PSU and no spare power connecters. In short this meant it had zero upgradeability and with a probably custom chassis I don't think I can even swap out the PSU to make it upgradeable.

So be careful even if you think you are getting a good deal that PC is designed to be exactly what it is. When you build one with good parts you just swap out the part that stops working or is obsolete, making all future upgrades much less painful.

Message from my brother, my younger, but admittedly stronger-techwise brother: "Why are you bashing the card? It's a NVIDIA GeForce GT220."

It's a very bad card for gaming, even my card that I bought something like 3 going on 4 years ago is better than that by a mile. Simply put, the 220 was not built for gaming, it was built for desktop use, and that's about all you'll get from it at any reasonable resolution

computers you buy from a physical store are simply NOT MADE FOR GAMING (edit: does fry's sell gaming computers? if any chain sold them in an actual store, it would be fry's)

i'm pretty sure my mom, who is in her 50s, could put a computer together given instructions and a screwdriver, and she's afraid to install a browser other than internet explorer

Ok I just looked at OP again to make sure we're on track still.

What you were looking for originally was our opinions on the prefab best buy computer, and what alternatives there are.

We've given you our opinions with cited resources to back them up, and you're doing nothing but throwing more variables and excuses back at us in return.

If your intention was to find anyone on the forum here that would support your decision to buy that heap of crap then you're looking in the wrong place, go to best buy. As long as you understand we've made it explicitly clear that is not a gaming computer.

Otherwise, work with us and try and come up with some solutions to the hurdles you would need to face when purchasing your computer. I've never met a mother that didn't support their child's educational endeavors.

PyroZombie...

You're acting as if putting together a computer is something like diffusing a timebomb.

Your options are:

1) Paying $1000 for a mediocre computer with a weak graphics card made with the cheapest parts to be found in a wage slave factory in mainland China. Also, you get to remain techtarded and live in fear of electronics.

2) Working with us to make you a true gaming rig capable of taking just about anything you can throw at it (and then some) made with high quality, handpicked parts. For less than $1000. Also, you get to cure your techtardation and grow a pair of balls along with an e-peen. If you want, have your younger bro and/or a more experienced friend to help you build everything. A fun learning experience for everyone! Just remember to wear rubber gloves.
