Here's an idea. Someone offer to build him a decent rig for cheaper than it would be in stores, for a decent commission. Then you send it to him. Zombie gets a good computer, and you get paid. Everybody wins! Hell, I'd offer to do it but I've only built one computer before.

Schedule a build time with us and we can be on IRC or mumble to help you. It's really not that hard, I've been building them since I was in high school and they have gotten progressively easier. It used to be you could hook power into your mobo wrong and zap-fry it, they've now re-engineered the cable to make that impossible. Most of it is idiot proofed by now. The only hard part is picking out parts that don't have any problems working together.
There are only a couple cringe-worthy moments building the PC. One is installing the CPU. AMD at least has idiot proofed this again. They pre-apply "good enough" thermal paste to the fan. Stock fan and thermal paste is good enough that you don't need to replace it unless you are overclocking. So what was the most panicky step basically turns into just being very careful not to bend any of the pins. Just clear out a good workplace avoiding carpets, beef up on some youtube videos, get a good screwdriver, expect about 30-45 minutes to build. |
I had my dad shove on the CPU fan for me, as I wanted the person paying for it to take the blame if something broke. Nothing broke, but it wasn't pleasant to have to use that much force. |

ya, most cpu fans are pretty stressful to put on if you're new to it
how the fuck do you do that you align the CPU above the socket and it should drop right in, if it doesnt, take it out gently and rearrange it. simple |
