More computer problems..

New graphics card, fresh windows install. Still getting bsods. Run a few chkdsk to maybe see if i have a corrupt drive. No problems detected there.
Decide to do memtest overnight


It was up to 92000 errors when I was done pouring my cereal.
Now, is it likely only one stick or is there no way to know from here?

i decided to change some timings and voltages in my bios
my system seems to be running more stable than it was before. I'll run another overnight memtest tonight with the new settings
otherwise i'll test each individual one and then get gskill to replace it.

it's actually running really well after i set the timings and voltages back to what they used to be
it must have reset at one point in time

Wait did you have them tweaked or did the board not set them to the SPD values?

i'm 100 percent sure i set the timings and voltages correctly when i built the computer
when i went to go look yesterday it was set to auto
maybe my cr2032 is dead on my mobo and my bios reset at one point in time.

but anyways, i ran a memtest overnight with the new settings; no errors at all.

and after a few days of stability, system service exception blue screen again...
guess i'm going to run a 20 hour memtest because i'm getting fucking frustrated with this box. i thought it was fixed but now it's all messed up again. Maybe i should just give asus a call or something this weekend.

Edit, tweaked nb voltage a little. Maybe that will help. Gskill forums mentioned bumping up nb voltage by a tenth of a volt if there is problems with system stability with 1600 ram.

Question: does it really matter if my memory isn't on the certified vendor list for the motherboard and vice versa?

yeah that's what I thought. At least I think I'm on the right track with modifying the NB voltage. Feel pretty stupid that this might have been the problem the whole time.

Not really, timings and voltages differ between vendors, even component suppliers.
If you do encounter compatibility issues (and I have in the past) support may be limited unless you are using supported parts.

I had an issue on my old P4 build where I mixed RAM from Corsair and Crucial, they had the same stock clock speeds, same capacity and I even went so far as to ensure they had the same amount of memory chips with the same capacity over each chip as each other, but it would eventually crash in games unless I was only running one of the brands. I eventually replaced the Crucial sticks with a pair of matching Corsair sticks, and that build proceeded to be rock solid for like 6 years until I replaced it with my current AMD build. Then it was my pFSense box until I built a new one of those too.
